Child of Light -- Italian Version

"Child of Light" by Michelle Sadler was published in The New Era magazine in June 1979.  It is a lovely piano/vocal piece that I find especially appropriate for a baptism.  The original song can be found here:  https://www.lds.org/new-era/1979/06/child-of-light?lang=eng

Anziano Bringhurst, serving in Napoli, has translated the song into Italian.  Here is his translation:

Hymn Arrangements

Latter-Day Saint music leaders are counseled to primarily use hymns and "hymnlike" songs in sacrament meeting.  (See the Church Handbook of Instructions for more info.)

The quickest, easiest, and most appropriate way to provide special music in any language for sacrament meeting is to use hymn arrangemets.  Why?  Because the translating has been done for you.  Choose a hymn arrangement that you love, and you can usually find the hymn already translated in your ward/branch hymnbook.  Pencil in the translated lyrics and the hard part is done.

If you are a vocal soloist, I highly reccommend "Sabbath Song II" -- a compilation of relatively new arrangements.  (By Various. Arranged by Compiled by Clayne Robison. High Voice or Low Voice versions available. Varied. Book and accompaniment CD. Published by Jackman Music Corporation (JK.01200), (JK.01213).  These arrangements are quite vocally challenging, but I find most of them exceptionally beautiful.  And having a piano accompaniment CD can be very helpful when pianists are in short supply.

Another great source for arrangements is Sally Deford.  She has written lots of beautiful music that she generously gives away for free on her website.  She has done several hymn arrangements, and there are some free MP3s there as well.

Any suggestions?  Please feel free to add them in the comments!

"Little Baby" (Bel Bambino) by Traci Law -- in Italian

Traci Law's insanely gorgeous Christmas song called "Little Baby" was published in the December 2008 New Era magazine.  I taught it to English-speaking children who sang it beautifully, and then just last Christmas we translated it into Italian.  It turned out really nice.

The original sheet music be downloaded here:

Here is the sheet music with Italian lyrics hand-written in, plus a lyrics-only sheet:

And here are the lyrics in Italian:
Bel Bambino
"Little Baby" di Traci Law -- Pubblicato in The New Era - Dicembre 2008
Bel bambino in una stalla
Vieni per salvare il mondo.
Bel bambino in una stalla, vieni a salvarmi.

Una stella danze in cielo.
Re e pastori onor gli danno.
Una stella danze per il bel bambino.

Alleluia.

O venite, veneriamo.
O venite, adoriamo.
O venite, veneriamo il bel bambino.

Alleluia.

Vieni a salvarmi.

Italian / English LDS Hymn Index

Ciao, my sisters and brothers!

I am an American living in Italy.  Our branch is bilingual and our meetings are conducted in English and Italian simultaneously.  I am the pianist in our branch.

I find that gathering hymn names, page numbers and simplified piano accompaniments for Sacrament Meeting takes far longer than it needs to.  And with all of that data, it's really easy to make a mistake that can cause distractions during the meetings.  To solve this problem I have created a spreadsheet that coordinates all of this data.  I will share it with you here!

http://sdrv.ms/OlTr25

For best results, download a copy of the spreadsheet to your computer.  Then you can set a "print area" and print just the worksheet page at the beginning, which is the portion you will want to print out each Sunday.  (If you print the whole document it will be many pages long!)

You only need to enter your songs once, in the yellow "Pianist" cells at the top.  The lower "Bishopric" and "Chorister"copies are formatted to display whatever you put into the yellow "Pianist" cells.

The spreadsheet will usually self-populate if you type the first few words of the song title in English.  If it doesn't, just use "control/F" to look up the song title in either language.  Then you can just copy and paste the cell contents.

And the spreadsheet is sortable!  You can sort by topic, page number in either language, song title in either language, etc.

I spent hours on this, so I had to share.  I hope it makes your life easier!

Ciao, i miei fratelli e sorelle!
